Having a bad day Quick tips to melt the stress away.

Having a bad day Quick tips to melt the stress away. Ever have one of those days where you just want to throw your computer out the window, or walk out the door and never come back? OK, if you havent then you either have an awesome job or are unemployed. But even the very best of jobs get stressful. The boss is being a jerk, a coworker took the credit for something you did, or you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Sometimes, we just need a do-over. R.J. Ignelzi, a Union-Tribune Staff writer, wrote a fantastic article, Give stress a rest-simple, quick relaxation techniques to help tackle tension.   No time for a long, hot bath or a trip to the spa? R.Js ideas are quick and easy to doat home, work, or even in your car. Here are some suggestions: At Work or School Soothe weary computer eyes. Rub palms together vigorously to create heat and place them over your eyes for a full minute. (Wow. Must try!!) Squeeze a rubber ball in your hand for 3 seconds and release. Try Quickie Yoga. Sit up straight in your chair and let your arms drop limp at your sides. Inhale, and on the exhale, lean forward and rest your chest on your thighs. Remain there for 5 seconds then slowly come up and inhale. Repeat 3 or 4 times, or until your colleagues make fun of you. Give yourself a mini hand massage. Grab the lotion in your desk and knead your tired fingers. (Now close your eyes and pretend you are at a spa ahhhh) Fake a smile. Studies show positive effects occur even if the smile is fake. Keep aromatherapy oils at your desk. Lavender and mint work wonders. (I have been studying and using aromatherapy for 13 years and find it works miracles when having a bad day, cant get the brain moving, need to relax, or need to perk up. Very beneficial for every aspect of your life.) Take deep breath throughout the day. This will keep you relaxed and relieve any tension that has built up. At home Hold hands with a loved one. (Human touch calms us down) Call a friend. (Get the days scoop!) Stroke or brush your pet. (Good for both of you!) Give yourself a mini scalp massage. (I do this ALL THE TIME. Tension drains away) Soak a hand towel and microwave it a couple of minutes until steamy. Apply to neck, forehead or achy lower back. Turn up the music and dance. (I do this at lunch time w/my kids we all love it) Keep a daily gratitude journal. R.J. also goes on to talk about relaxing in your vehicle and while shopping (shopping stressful? No way!).   You can read the entire article here. I feel much better already, dont you?

Write a Skills Resume Template That Stands Out

Write a Skills Resume Template That Stands OutIf you want to stand out in a crowd, the best way to do so is to remember how to write a skills resume template. No one is going to hire someone that seems like they can't write a decent resume because they couldn't even sit down and write a short paragraph. What skills resumes are generally designed for include something that people looking for jobs would typically find on a job application. Skills that are valuable in a job search should be found in the skills section. Since skills are what get you the job, you should aim to use them as often as possible. The basic format for a skills resume is to list your skills and what you've done with each of them. For example, if you're an engineer, your skills might be a mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, or metallurgist. Any of these can work. You may want to look at what a typical resume would look like before attempting to write a skills resume. It's a good idea to write several skill resu mes before deciding which to submit to various recruiters. You might notice that some companies require you to submit two skills resume templates instead of one. If this is the case, it's generally a good idea to put the more generalized one first and then include the more specific one if you've been invited to apply. The requirements for getting a job or internship might vary based on which skills resume templates you choose to use. There's nothing wrong with using the first template, but you may find that by using the other one it's much easier to create a more targeted resume.Just as there are many different resume templates, there are also several different skills resume templates available online. Most of them contain the basic information you need, but they don't really stand out from the pack.To avoid coming across as unprofessional, it's a good idea to see which skills resume templates are currently used by the people who are applying. There are also specific templates availa ble to help make your skills resume stand out.

All the Criticism of the New Period Emoji Proves Why We Need One

All the Criticism of the New Period Emoji Proves Why We Need One Theres an emoji for everything. Or so I thought until it was announced that theres a new set of emojis coming, and one of them is causing quite the craze. Thanks to a campaign by Plan International UK, a period emoji has been included in the February 2019 emoji release. They started the push for a period blood emoji back in 2017 to break down the taboo surrounding menstrual cycles. The fact so many women in this country still find it difficult to talk to work colleagues, friends, and family about their period shows that it remains a taboo subject and something women feel ashamed to discuss, Campaign Manager Lucy Russell said in press for the campaign. We know that these taboos can have a damaging impact on the lives of girls around the world. Many missing school because they face bullying or unfair treatment, or experiencing infections due to a lack of menstrual hygiene education and products Women have told us that by h aving an emoji, it will make it easier for them to talk about periods with others. However, bedrngnis everyone is convinced that a blood drop emoji is what we need.Of course, some of the naysayers are trolls who are disgusted by the fact that the Unicode Consortium (no, I didnt make this up) has put a period emoji on our keyboards. One twitter user even mentioned that they wouldnt be updating their phone to avoid the emoji. Im not taking these dissenters too seriously, because its pretty easy to argue that the people calling periods gross are the exact reason why the campaign started.Instead, another form of criticism caught my eye. One tweet that got over 1,000 likes made an interesting argument that people who menstruate dont need period emojis, they need better access to education and healthcare. While the premise of this argument is a strong one people who menstruate DO need better access to healthcare and education about their bodies the progressive movement towards better heal th services cant start until our bodies are mora normalized.Sadly, as Ive discovered today researching for this story, theres a large part of the population that is still wildly uncomfortable about the idea of texting with their friends about periods much less talking about them in the public sphere. If people who menstruate are unable to talk about their periods, how are they supposed to advocate for the reproductive health of others? Its my belief that normalization and the movement of a topic from the private to public sphere starts with talking about something more and more frequently, more and more loudly. And today, our language of choice is emojis. Maybe an emoji doesnt equal normalization. But I do think its a rhetorical move in the right direction.People really like to disregard feminist movements that are anything less than combating horrific crimes, and I think its time we stop to think about why. Is it that we are just preconditioned as women to believe that as long a s were not dying, we need to smile and say Im fine? Is it that the patriarchy is constantly reminding us that things could be worse and we should just stop here and be grateful? No need to move forward with progress, ladies Were all done here. Move along.Feminism should always be intersectional and protect those that are the least privileged. I will be the first to admit that movements like these probably do not help those people, especially not in immediate ways that they might need most. But I do believe this was well intentioned, hoping to propel conversations forward for all people who menstruate. And gosh darn it, is it too much to ask to celebrate something in 2019? Ill be having a period party at 9 p.m. EST. Ask me for an invite.

By the Numbers The Steel Curtain

By the Numbers The Steel Curtain By the Numbers The Steel Curtain In the United States and Europe, we tend to think of steelmaking as an industry of the past. Over the last 40 years, employment in steelmaking has dropped by about two-thirds in the United States and Germany and by 85 percent in the United Kingdom. There are maybe as many steelers left in Pittsburgh as there are cowboys in Dallas. While steelmakers may be disappearing, gains in productivity mean overall production hasnt followed the sharp reduction in employment. Data from the World Steel Association, a trade group based in Brussels, shows that in most of the developed world steel production has been roughly steady for a generation. In North America, for instance, production of crude steel has bounced from 125 million tons in 1980 to 135 million tons in 2000 to 111 million tons in 2015. In the same three years in the original 12 member states of the European Union, the production figures were 142 million, 148 million, a nd 129 million tons.Annual crude steel production, in million metric tons.Indeed, global steel production figures outside of Asia are remarkably steady, staying in a band centered on 500 million tons a year. Over those 35 years, however, global steel consumption was anything but steadyconsumption has doubled since 2000, reaching 1,670 million tons last year. To feed that growing demand, production in Asia skyrocketed.South Korea has invested intensely in heavy industry, and its steel production has grown accordingly from 9 million tons in 1980 to 43 million tons in 2000 and 72 million in 2015. India has also had explosive growth in steel over the same period, jumping from 10 million tons to 27 million to 87 million. But the steel production growth in China is in a totally different league. China was already a large steel producer in 1980 its 37 million tons made it the fifth largest in the world, behind the United States, the Soviet Union, Japan, and West Germany. But industrializati on and urbanization had only begun to take hold in China, and by 1996, it was the worlds largest steel-producing staat with 101 million tons produced. For the past decade, steel production was dominated by China. With the entry of China into the World Trade Organization, however, steel production went into overdrive. In the seven years from 1996 to 2003, steel production more than doubled by 2006, it doubled again. By 2014, China produced 822 million tons of crude steel, or about what the rest of the world produced. As much as 10 percent of its steel production now is exported. It seems unrealistic to believe that the breakneck growth in China can continue. Indeed, production fell back a bit in 2015, and thanks to the slowdown in the Chinese economy, the industry has seen year-over-year declines in each of the past 12 months. There is no reason to believe that the steel centers of China will soon resemble the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. But if Chinas economy is maturing to resemble t hat of other major industrial nations, then it stands to reason that China may already be producing as much steel as it will ever need.Learn more about the latest technologies in 3D printing at ASMEsAM3D Conference Expo.
